The PolyOrganizer

TL:DR | This post is from my long history of systems thinking. From organizing a room of furniture for optimal flow, technology cable management, to the advanced Input and Output of a Personal Knowledge Management System. PIOS, PKM, LifeOS.

The PolyOrganizer

Finding the most optimal path. That is the way of the human being. From the Taoism focus on flow and Wu Wei, to the Feng shui of your living space, and even trying to succeed in life.

You must first figure out what is the best step to take, and in each instance you are organizing something (anything). You must first figure out what is the first thing you must move.

Doing Feng shui before I even knew what it was!

I found myself always obsessed with the idea of arranging my room in the most optimal way. Maybe not so much about the flow of energy, but for example not putting the TV across from the window as to avoid glare.

In my current room as of the time of this writing I have rearranged my living space more than 60 times. Why? You might ask... Well because of the poor layout, and how the room allocates its "empty space". I'm not able to orient my furniture without blocking a window, door, or closet.

Me at 9 years old moving my huge bed.

This all is important to this post because it taught me the serious value of having a clean and minimal environment. How much that helps you keep a clear mind. This also goes for digital Feng shui as well.

Being a Minimalist but also a Deep Tech nerd

All of my life I have been a techie, and I found myself gathering tech of all kinds. From computers to PC parts, gaming devices, and now content creation equipment as well. In light of that my other side of me kicks in, which aims to be minimalist, so I find myself trying to decrease the amount of space my tech takes up.

I've even been toying with the idea of converting my computer setup to a completely mobile one. With my creation stuff like camera and mic, included, but just in a portable fashion.

I find myself trying to organize my tech in ways of access. When I need a screwdriver it should be right there. If I go traveling I'll have my main backpack, but more than likely I'll have my EDC sling (every day carry). In each I'll have a power bank, some cables, and micro adapters. Just in case.

For the last two weeks I have been trying to pack my bag, that is literally for a trip a MONTH from now. A little less at this time of writing now, but still. Way too far in advance. Again you may find yourself asking WHY. Why Dustin are you wasting time with something like that?

Well I am thinking about the conference goodies I'll be bringing back, and how much I need to realistically bring with me. I'm organizing my luggage based on those factors, and that I want to carry a sling. However my backpack will more than likely be my personal item. Thus I need to figure out what will be my personal, my carry on, and how does the sling fit into it all. More importantly how do I organize and carry all of the stuff BACK. I'm trying to go without a suitcase, so do I pack an empty duffle for the way back?

The Creation of the PolyInnovation Operating System

I like to call it the Personal Innovation Operating System as well, as that is the focus. How it helps YOU in YOUR life. Some folks call systems like this a Second brain or LifeOS, but for me it was more than that.

We polymathic people needed a system for us, and we need a way to organize all the various plans we are juggling.

The PIOS came from a need to organize my Modular DIY Degree, and my Content Production. Both were my motivating factors, and thus I created unique templates for them. However the holistic system above them came to be as well.

After a couple of eureka moments, I was able to create a robust umbrella. Tracking the Yearly/Monthly/Weekly/Daily, etc.

That level of micro detail allows for a greater understanding of the macro. Organizing all levels of your life.

Why the PolyOrganizer?

Organizing and systems is in my blood. I love doing it, and I find unique ways of making things work. Most career tests I've taken often lead me to "Solutions Architect" or "Project Manager" when it comes to what I would be great at.

This is also the major factor behind my desire to work in Smart City Development. To me it is all about the orchestration of how to get things done.

Maybe the next step is to start working in Solutions. Organizing and reorganizing companies.
