Email is something I've spent a ton of time looking into believe it or not. Considering how little I do of it now, many of you might be surprised to read that, especially since the only email I really do now is just my MANY newsletters.

However there was a time, back when I was still using

Fake #7 - Mailchimp

Not a fan of this at this point, its a pretty ancient way of doing email marketing nowadays, with a lot of better tools. Also not a fan of that it is owned by Intuit. I'm simply including it because it is just widely known.

#7 - MailPoet

While I tend to hate on Wordpress a lot on here, there were a handful of plugins I really enjoyed using during my time on that CMS. One of which was actually a plugin called MailPoet, which to me was the best Wordpress email plugin there was, and I can't say it still is as I don't have the context. However it does still look great, and even back then it felt great to use. To make a nicely designed email especially.

#6 - Substack, Beehiiv, and Paragraph

Obviously the newsletter platforms have to be on here. Each one has their own benefit, so they each have a point to use one or the other.

  • Substack has video/audio/LIVE posts, and all three can turn into a podcast feed. Super unique and useful for multi format creators.
  • Beehiiv has some of the best automations for email marketing and affiliate marketing in a newsletter tool. Great referral tool too if you don't want to use rewardful.
  • Paragraph has had its ups and downs in my opinion, but it is the best web3 newsletter tool. Meaning if you also want to post to the blockchain alongside sending out emails. Give yourself a bit of futureproofing.

#5 - MailBrew

Okay hear me out, while not a straight up email marketing tool. I used this in a unique way. Mailbrew is more of an rss or media consolidator for yourself, but someone else can also hop on that email receiving if I recall correctly.

The way I used it was that of a consolidator for my content. Since I make so much across platforms, and if someone happened to be interested in what I do. Then it could list out the lastest blogs/videos/podcasts of that week in one email. Revue sort of did this back when it was still around.

#4 - Mailerlite

A replacement for mailchimp, that has more features, more integrations, and not a bad price. While I'm not on the marketing for an email marketing tool as of right now, this is one I'd be leaning towards.

I'd want to create some simple email automations, and some other not so simple ones. Perhaps an email course, or something along those lines too.

#3 - Ghost CMS

Not all instances of Ghost will have email, but most hosting providers have a service included with the Ghost hosting for email.

Given that I have all of my newsletters on this platform, technically I use Substack too but that newsletter is also on here. Ghost is the best multi-newsletter platform on the market. I mean sure there is buttondown, but it doesn't have the visuals that Ghost CMS themes have, and the interface.

I chose a particular theme that allows me to show case multiple tags, and therefore multiple newsletters at once. Showcasing all that I have to offer on one site.

#2 - SendFox

Put on here simply because it is cheap (even a decent free plan), it is simple, and you only have to pay for it once. As it is a lifetime deal tool from Appsumo.

Great choice for a lot of creators who need to start building out an email list, but don't necessarily want the fluff of a newsletter like Substack/Beehiiv.

#1 - Kit (formerly ConvertKit)

This actually sort of jumped to the top, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. The pricing has always been sort of high for an email marketing tool. Although I should note that when it comes to making quick landing pages for a project/funnel, that Kit is one of the simplest tools to do that with.

They also bought out kit.co which essentially an affiliate link listing place, such as here is my "youtuber setup" and have links to all of the products.

Meaning there is a lot more than just emails under the hood of this tool. I seem to recall setting up some automation chains of emails pretty simply when I tried out the tool. I didn't see a need for it off the bat for a lot of creators, you should build your email list though, but overall still very powerful for the minimalist creator.
