The Failure of JoinClubhouse

This post began as a Twitter thread:

So the start of the post will be that thread, and expanded upon after.

I still find this unacceptable. I get that app dev is tough, and you have to make cuts to get started. However it is EXPECTED to be cross platform on launch. 🤔😤😤

@joinClubhouse says its Android launch will take ‘a couple of months’ – TechCrunch

If you can't launch with both, then don't launch yet. Bide your time, build it up, if anything Kotlin makes it easier to cross program. There are plenty of other ways if going about it too

I saw the Android dev on the careers page, and it struck out to me how late they started ugh I'm still mad about this @joinClubhouse the #FOMO sucks. I've gotten half a dozen app invites, but I can't even do anything about it. I would have joined day one.

You don't even have a webapp or at least even let me reserve my username on your site. SOMETHING I love having first mover advantage when I can. I've been on #blockchain social networks, new video sites, tried out 100's of tools, and even used @voicehubapp when it was out, which i̶s̶ was an alternative that had recording even too.

Why this all is so important:

As the first live voice app to gain popularity, and the one being in the news (I mean I'm even writing about it right now), Clubhouse has a responsibility to set some of the groundwork. Just as Twitch needed to for live video, although we are seeing now that Twitch lacks direction from where to go now.

The fact that over two thirds of the population can't use Clubhouse is leaving a ton of people out. Not to mention it really does seem to me that Android is an after thought, even if they are trying now. It seems too late IMO, and I've made that clear already I know.

Being able to have those panel discussions, multi person podcast shows, and live audio performances is really a novel thing in this modern age. It isn't like the radio, as it acts differently in context.

How the Medium is going to evolve:

We are going to see more and more new use cases for the medium, like one that just came to mind is the idea that lectures could be presented and or recorded in a purely audio format.

So that if a student is running late, they can listen in on the commute, or perhaps not even have to attend a physical class entirely.

Additionally, we will see a rise in live podcasting. Up until now it has only been through the medium of live video, but I think a bunch of people will feel more comfortable with LIVE if it is audio only.

Connections via the live panels from CEOs to prospective clients or new employees, essentially matching via the panels.

Audio as a Medium [Fireside Micro-PolyCast] - The Polymath PolyCast with Dustin Miller
The future of #audio is live AND pre-recorded. I felt that many people needed to think more about what the future may hold. This idea sharing is what this series is all about! Taking a short form audio format. P.S. I just had the idea about having a fire track in the background, so it has this rel…

What I am going to do...

At least from my current point of view/perspective, perhaps things will change when new platforms arise.

Telegram Voice Chats 2.0 Released to Rival Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces
Telegram Voice Chats 2.0 will let users conduct voice-only chats with unlimited participants to rival Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces. Group admins can record chats and also select who can speak.
Voice Chats 2.0: Channels, Millions of Listeners, Recorded Chats, Admin Tools
Voice Chats first appeared in December, adding a new dimension of live talk to Telegram groups. Starting today, they become available in channels too – and there are no more limits on the number of participants. This update also brings recordable voice chats, rich lists of participants, raise hand m…

From what I can tell I'm going to have my fill with Telegram and Twitter Spaces, it will be interesting to see which one I can get my hands on first. I've already considered heavily on the Telegram in the past ANYWAYS for the PolyInnovator Community.
