This post acts as a sort of mini-course if you will on how to build out the PIOS in your tool of choice. Although the screenshots will be that of Obsidian, as that is what I personally use.

Okay this first part is going to explain what Personal Knowledge Management is, so if you're fully into the PKM world. You just want to jump to the meat of things then scroll down! If you're new to it, then no worries I made this section for you!

What is the point?

Think about a challenge or endeavor you were trying to accomplish. Think about the steps you took to DO that action. The tasks you listed out, the projects or goals you set in place, and the notes you took to learn something new.

What did you do to actually write those down? A post it note? Apple notes? Evernote even? Weak.

Lacking reference systems, bi-directional linking, prioritization, and more. Having a robust tool, that doesn't have be complicated, will help you organize all of that information into a more cohesive system. All that task management, project management, and note taking; It should all come together into your knowledge management tool.

What is Knowledge Management?

It is the combination of all of those things: your notes, your tasks and goals, and in some cases even advanced project management as well (although that is dependent on the tool). I find that these three areas fall under the umbrella of what personal knowledge management is, or PKM for short.

After many MANY years of trying, I created a PKM framework for myself, that I thought would work for other people as well. It was based on a Supra to Nano scientific scale, but really it was more Yearly to Daily in practice. Since the inception I have simplified it to this time based scale.
