Changing My Forward Focus - The Content Polymath
There have been a number of times I've talked about "Phases" here on this blog and on the channels. Where each Phase is an Area of Interest, or Area of Expertise, that I or you are focusing on at this time.
Usually I talk about it in the context of juggling multiple phases, or at least interleaving them in a systematic way. That way you can do more with your time than most people, as they tend to just focus on one thing well (or 2-3 things poorly). My phases have been juggling between these four* for a while:
- PKM or Personal Knowledge Management
- Through this area I talked about the Modular Degree Framework too
- Swimming and the How to Swim book I'm writing
- PolyInnovator Gaming - The Generalist Gamer
- Lastly, PolyTools, or as I have changed the branding to now: The Content Polymath
Given the rise of attention I've gotten from mostly the creator interview clips, rather than the Polymath interview clips, or even just my regular content. I realized a while back that the PolyTools and/or the PolyInnovator Gaming would be the key towards more rapid growth for me as a creator.
This doesn't mean I'm giving up, just Pausing
I haven't seen much growth in the way of the polymathy world, and I've hit so many roadblocks it is discouraging. That niche, even though I made it more viable, by adding the Knowledge Management for Polymaths part, it doesn't seem to be a fast growing topic.
I've known that for a long time, but my life is going still in the background, and I'm not where I want to be.
I do plan on continuing the 🧮 The Polymath Wiki newsletter in the meantime however, as that seems to be well received more than the other polymathy content. The knowledge management angle, of the PIOS, will be sort of on a floating basis. Meaning I'll still post, but I'm not going to rush to get content out for that topic.
Also, I see it as a multi-fold benefit. Most of the upcoming posts are discussions around videos I've found in the topics. From multi-passionate to polymaths, etc, and more. I wanted to highlight those creators, which will also connect me with them, and thus widen the network hopefully. Then down the line when I am ready to restart the Polymath PolyCast, there will be plenty of people to have on the show. Plus I get to bring more attention to creators making great content, and then share my two cents on the thoughts brought up in the video as well.
The swimming newsletter and the gaming newsletter are not going to have much of anything added for a while. Until I am able to host multiple newsletters at the same time, as in moving to a different host than Ghost Pro (they limit you to 3). Not to mention I don't have anything currently to add to those series.
The gaming channel however will hopefully get some attention, as I want to start streaming across platforms with a variety of games in my free time.
I think that is all of the other niches that I need to discuss at the moment..
The Content... Innovator, Polymath?
PolyTools was the name I was working on for a while, and I was excited to create a brand new brand. Even made a website Polytools .blog for it, but alas the hosting solution wasn't working. Not to mention the theme kept breaking on me, and so I took down the site.
Well that was really the main source for that name, other than the PolyTools Digest, which I realized when writing this that I should probably change that name too.
I like the Content Innovator moniker, but I realized if I said Content Polymath. Then that would connect it more with PolyInnovator, and increase curiosity in the viewers as to what that means.
Might keep the @ PolyTools handle in most places, so that the links don't get broken for those places. However the name and the branding will change.
Thus going forward everything that I post on socials will all be towards that goal of building this particular sub-brand.
Don't let the sub-brand part fool you, it is just simply how it is organized in the content ecosystem. However it will be my focus going forward.
