A Jack of All Platforms

Welcome to the PolyInContent Digest, where we put the Poly ("much or many") in an omnichannel approach to content.

I'm taking a polymathic approach when I talk about content creation, and considering the main "umbrella" niche I employ it makes sense.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

I want you to think about your content journey. Maybe you're a CEO that wanted to boost sign ups for your digital tool, or perhaps physical venture. Maybe you're like me and just had ideas you wanted to share with the world. OR MAYBE, you are the kind of person who has already done both of those things.

In any case I want you to think back on when you got started. Maybe you thought being a YouTuber was cool, or were told it was a great source of traffic. Perhaps you are a writer, that needed to share your ideas, or you're deathly afraid of being on camera and wanted to be a podcaster instead.

Those are all the three main content types, and over time you might've experimented with the other two too. Even if you never posted them, or started doing all three regularly too.

The point is that you gotta dabble when you get started. Experiment with what you like or don't like, experiment to see what works and what doesn't, and overall dabble across the board on a variety of platforms.

Spinning Multiple Plates

Many people fail to realize that the Jack of All Trades quote has a second part, and that leads them to think that being a JoAT is a bad thing.

“The complete saying was originally “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

Hence why dabbling is actual quite helpful because it leads to a greater understanding of the bigger picture. If you focus on just ONE, then you put all your eggs in one basket.

Do NOT put all of Yours eggs in ONE Basket
Being a content creator means you are more valuable to your audience on multiple platforms. Don’t be a one trick pony as they say.
Gotta get that backlink internally to one of my other posts in this Digest series.

The hard thing is time management, and that is why specialist minded people think it is bad to spin many plates. However it isn't "bad" just Different, and you need to learn how to do it well. Once you do then you level up to more of a generalist with a deeper level of many areas.

Note: The level up ideal is referencing my "Multidisciplinary Spectrum", which is a scale of people knowledge identity. I.e. polymath, generalist, specialist, etc.

The PolyInContent Model

Now you might have a better understanding of what I am going for with this email/blog series. The model is modelled after the polymathic lifestyle/mindset. Allowing for a new perspective in the content creation/repurposing space. Honestly, I'd argue that many people who are talking, or even thinking, about content repurposing are generalists themselves. I've even interviewed a handful of them myself on the PolyCast.

The polymathic approach and an omnichannel strategy go hand in hand.
